John Unruh
John Robert Unruh is an attorney based in San Francisco, CA with a nation-wide practice focused on VA disability benefits law. Before opening his own law firm, John was a Staff Attorney at Swords to Plowshares, a nationally recognized veterans’ rights organization in San Francisco, CA. Prior to assisting veterans with their disability benefits claims, John was an AmeriCorps Legal Fellow at the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii in Honolulu, HI, representing public housing and low-income tenants in eviction proceedings and assisting his clients in accessing and preserving affordable housing.
John serves on the board of directors of the AIDS Legal Referral Panel and is an active member of the National Organization of Veterans’ Advocates (NOVA), currently serving on the Regulation Comment Executive Committee. John is a previous co-chair and board member of the Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF) and is a founding member of the BALIF Foundation.
John received his J.D. from The Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law and has a B.A. in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley. He is licensed to practice law in California and Hawaii and is a Department of Veterans Affairs Accredited Service Representative.
